Breaking New Ground: A Toolkit to Advance Geothermal Energy in Europe

Geothermal energy has the potential to revolutionize Europe’s renewable energy landscape, offering a reliable and climate-friendly heat source. However, technical challenges, economic risks, and public skepticism have slowed its progress. The EU-funded FindHeat consortium, led by TU Delft, aims to break these barriers with an innovative toolkit to make geothermal energy more efficient, cost-effective, and widely accepted.

The FindHeat project is pioneering a new exploration workflow that combines cutting-edge software, low-cost geological and geophysical techniques, customized training, and strategies for public engagement. The toolkit will undergo validation at eight diverse geothermal sites across Europe, showcasing its ability to minimize risks and maximize efficiency in appraising geothermal resources. By directly involving industry stakeholders, the consortium ensures that the toolkit will meet real-world operational needs, setting the stage for wider adoption.
