From preparing the foundations for event sites including Euro 2012 and the 2014 Winter Olympics, to competing for 180€ billion EU investment funds available for Central & Eastern Europe infrastructure projects, construction experts are cautiously optimistic about the European piling and foundation industry’s future.
"Driven by a steadily rising number of investment projects underway and planned, construction companies express slightly more favourable assessments of the economic situation of the market when compared to the findings of a study conducted six months ago," explains Bartłomiej Sosna, Senior Construction Analyst for PMR Publications, in a report published this month.
As the economic situation improves with a period of expected growth, competition for contracts looks likely to increase, placing more pressure on contractors not only to complete projects on time and to budget, but also to understand which techniques have and have not worked for other projects.
With a recent €14 billion investment in its expressways and motorways, and its role as Euro 2012 co-host, Poland has cemented itself at the core of the European piling and foundations community.
"Poland will exert the strongest influence on the situation in the region's road construction market; this country represents 40% of the market's value," adds Sosna in a separate report on the Central European road construction market.
It is therefore fitting that Construction IQ's Piling & Deep Foundations Europe 2011 event will take place here on 22nd-23rd February, at the Sofitel Warsaw Victoria.
Examining in detail the latest research into pile testing, pile design and pile installation, the conference will be a platform for piling and deep foundation professionals to network, benchmark and exchange skills and solutions with their peers. Case studies of projects include:
Sochi Olympic Stadium and Krasnaya Polyana Road project, Keller Polska
The Pinnacle, City of London, Bachy Soletanche
Polish A2 Motorway, China Overseas Engineering Company
Euro 2012 Hotel project, Kiev, OSNOVA-SOLSIF
High Speed Railway Milan-Turin Line, TREVI
Narodowe Forum Muziki, Wroslaw, BUDWUG
Fast Railway Connection Warsaw Centre - Okecie Airport, GRONTMIJ
