Integrated Imaging of the Earth
This two day meeting on 11/12 February 2016 in Burlington House, London brings together researchers working on joint inversion and joint interpretation of different geophysical data.
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the Geological Society of London to participate in the annual British Geophysical Association - New Advances in Geophysics 2016 (BGA - NAG 2016) conference on 11th - 12th February 2016 on "Integrated Imaging of the Earth". This event will bring together researchers, students and the industry. The conference is marked by prominent invited speakers who will share their expertise and provide insights into the recent advances in Geophysics.
One of the main issues in Solid Earth Geophysics is to obtain reliable high-resolution images of the subsurface from relatively sparse observations at the surface of the Earth. Despite tremendous advances in seismic, electromagnetic and potential field imaging, each of these methods has inherent limitations determined by the physics of the method. One way to overcome such limitations is to combine different geophysical methods and use their respective strengths to increase resolution and extract additional information on subsurface properties.
In recent years, a variety of approaches ranging from joint inversion, where different methods are combined in a single inversion algorithm, to statistical analysis of independently obtained images have gained popularity. Such integrated methods have found applications in a wide range of fields from hydrogeophyscis, resource exploration and crustal imaging to investigating the deep mantle.
This meeting will bring together geophysicists with an interest in analysing their results in an integrated way. The main focus will be on quantitative methods such as joint inversion, cooperative inversion and statistical approaches to reconciling different results. We will combine presentations on new theoretical developments with case studies and applications demonstrating the advantages and problem areas of current approaches.
Invited speakers
We are inviting prominent speakers in the field to give keynote presentations. At the moment we have confirmations from
Aria Abubakar, Schlumberger, "Joint inversion in hydrocarbon exploration"Javier Fullea, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies "Integrated geophysical-petrological modelling of the upper mantle using terrestrial and satellite data"Niklas Linde, University of Lausanne, "On the value of multiple data types and conceptual geological knowledge in hydrogeophysical inversion"
Venue, Registration and Abstract Submission
The workshop will be held at Burlington House, Piccadilly Mayfair, London W1J 0BD.
Registration will open at the beginning of September and we will announce exact registration fees.
We are also looking for presentation and poster contributions and abstract submission will commence together with registration in early September and close mid-November.
