Dennis R. Hiltunen, Ph.D., P.E.

Professor of Civil Engineering
University of Florida

Colleagues,

Over the past few days I have read the many tributes to Dick’s life, all very touching. Indeed, I have been saddened and shaken by the news of his passing. I could not begin to calculate the tremendous positive impact that Dick Woods had on my life. My brain has been flooded with 40 years of memories of the positive experiences I had with this man. He taught and inspired me and I have enjoyed a wonderful professional career as a result. In some ways I think it was appropriate that just last week, while he was in his final hours, I was at a test site making shear wave velocity measurements. I think it would have made him smile. The world is a lesser place with his loss. May he rest in peace.

Best regards,

Dennis

P.S. I attach the last photograph that I have with Dick along with Ken Stokoe at my local test site here in Florida.
