On Tuesday, November 8th, two small sinkholes formed beneath a 5 lane street in Fukuoka, Japan.
The sinkholes grew in size until they combined into a single large sinkhole measuring 30 meters (98 feet) across.
Fukuoka is one of the largest cities on the southern island of Kyushu. Lucking, only several minor injuries were reported. However, the sinkhole caused major utility disruptions and traffic had to be diverted away from the busy intersection. Early reports suggest the sinkhole formation may have been related to issues in the nearby underground train line.
