Following days of heavy rains, massive landslides in Indonesia caused many casualties and burried entire villages under mud and rubble. Many people are still reported as missing while more rain is expected in the next days, keeping local authorities and rescue crews under alert.
Last Friday, Banjarnegara District in Java, was hit by heavy rain, which caused the loosening of already weathered ground, leading to massive landslides in the area. The Antara state news agency reported that at least 105 homes were burried under the mud and 15 people were injured. The landslides led to the evacuation of the affected areas and the displacement of over 600 people. Rescue efforts were hindered by lack of heavy equipment, making locals and crews digging with bare hands to search for possible survivors.
