Three people have been killed after a cliff collapsed on to a popular southern California beach. The sandstone bluff gave way shortly before 3pm on Friday in Encinitas, a suburb north of San Diego. The women were members of a family who had gathered to celebrate one of them having survived breast cancer, authorities and relatives said on Saturday. The area is very popular with locals, surfers and holidaymakers.
