Pocket Penetrometers: Gilson HM-500 Pocket Penetrometer
News Site Characterization & In-situ Testing (General) Laboratory Testing

The Gilson HM-500 Pocket Penetrometer is a lightweight, direct-reading soil device giving instant information for classification of cohesive soils on site or in the lab as required by OSHA for trenching and excavation inspection. The HM-500 Pocket Penetrometer is a hand operated device that uses a calibrated spring to measure penetration resistance of the ¼” diameter piston when pushed into soil. The permanent scale on the piston barrel reads approximated unconfined compressive strength from 0 to 4.5 tons per square foot or kilograms per centimeter squared (0 – 4.5tsf2 or kg/cm2). An indicator sleeve retains reading after piston is released. And use in very soft soils the Gilson HMA-15 Pocket Penetrometer Adapter Foot Attachment increases the surface area of the loading piston to area Show more
