- Description
- Various factors cause unsymmetrical lateral pressure on earth retaining structures. However, there have been few studies concerning this topic. The authors observed the behavior of an earth retaining structure subjected to unsymmetrical lateral pressure due to heavy rain. This paper describes the results observed and the results of numerical studies. The following conclusions were
arrived at: (1) Heavy rain can be a cause of unsymmetrical lateral pressure. (2) The analytical method presented is effective for designing earth retaining structures subjected to unsymmetrical earth pressure.

- Description
- A deep diaphragm wall construction and a deep excavation performed by the inverted lining method in diluvial deposits were carefully monitored, and their observed behaviour was compared with design predictions. The results of the 'field monitoring have shown an approximate coincidence in lateral earth pressure at rest but less ground surface displacement than that predicted by the design.

- Description
- This paper reports field measurements on lateral earth pressures acting on braced walls. The measurements have been observed for 10 years (4 years during excavation and 6 years after completion). The lateral earth pressures were decreased considerably during construction as a result of wall deformation, and gradually recovered after completion with cyclic seasonal pressure changes.
