The paper describes the use of an insitu ground modification technique, jet grouting, to
consolidate glacial and alluvial overburden overlying highly fractured limestone bedrock to
permit mining by a rock tunneling boring machine of a mixed face condition. A unique case
history in that special measures and modifications had to be made to the technique to
overcome the challenge of some very difficult site soils.
