2019 European heat waves

In late June and late July 2019 there were two temporally distinct European heat waves, which set all-time high temperature records in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom on July 25.

Market Street subway construction starts

The Market Street subway is a two-level subway tunnel that carries Muni Metro and BART trains under Market Street in San Francisco, California. It runs under the length of Market Street between Embarcadero station and Castro station. The upper level is used by Muni Metro lines and the lower level is used by BART lines. BART does not run through the whole subway; it turns south and runs under Mission Street southwest of Civic Center/UN Plaza station. The northeastern end of the BART level is connected to the Transbay Tube. On the Muni Metro level, the southwestern end of the Market Street subway connects to the much-older Twin Peaks Tunnel, and the northeastern end connects to surface tracks along the Embarcadero.

Corinth Canal date of first use

The Corinth Canal is an artificial canal in Greece that connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Being 6.4 kilometres (4 miles) long and 24.6 metres (80.7 feet) wide at sea level, the canal was dug through the Isthmus of Corinth at sea level and has no locks. The canal is crossed by a railway line, a road and a motorway at a height of about 45 metres (148 ft) and its almost vertical rock walls rise 90 metres (300 ft) above sea level.

1668 Shandong earthquake

The Great Tancheng earthquake , also known as the Shandong earthquake, was a major seismic event that occurred during the rule of the Qing dynasty. The earthquake occurred in Shandong Province on July 25, 1668. The earthquake had an estimated magnitude of Ms 8.5, making it the largest historical earthquake in East China, and one of the largest to occur on land. The earthquake had cataclysmic implications to the region. An estimated 43,000 to 50,000 lives were lost in the earthquake, and its effects were widely felt. The epicenter may have been located between Ju County and Tancheng counties, northeast of the prefecture-level city of Linyi in southern Shandong.
