Sinkhole outside home in Huntington Station, on Long Island: 3 fall into

On Long Island, a woman fell into a sinkhole as she was leaving her house, and two other people also fell in while attempting to rescue her. The hole was six feet across and six feet down. According to Huntington town inspectors, the ground's opening was caused by a combination of a water pipe leak and the previous night's torrential rain.

Just after 6 a.m., while it was still dark outside, a doorbell video recording shows one of the three people sliding into the hole on West 10^th Street. When the other two residents of the house heard her scream, they attempted to assist her in leaving but wound up joining her.

One individual was freed by Suffolk County police officers and a kind stranger, but the other two need a ladder to exit. The man claimed, "I was able to grab a wire cable, a step ladder, and rescue with police men and all that. "We pulled her, the old lady first out." Within ten minutes, everyone had been let free.

The woman, who was about 70 years old, and one of the guys, who was about 60 years old, were sent to Huntington Hospital for evaluation. The second man, who was about 60 years old, was unharmed.

To inspect the building and identify the source of the hole, the Town of Huntington Building Inspector was contacted. A probe is still being conducted.
