NorSand is an advanced constitutive material model utilizing Critical State Soil Mechanics (CSSM), a concept also used in the Modified Cam Clay model.
Srinivas Vivek Bokkisa and Jorge Macedo from Georgia Institute of Technology have released an educational article which explains the basic principles behind the model.
In addition, the article includes interactive 2D and 3D plots and animations, visualizing triaxial stress paths.
These interactive plots, as well as the rest of the article’s explanation, can greatly help the reader understand the different behavior exhibited by dense and loose samples under triaxial conditions.
The full article can be found here.
