Hayward Baker Inc., North America's leader in geotechnical construction, was recently awarded a contract for the New Atlanta Stadium project. The new stadium, expected to open in 2017, will be the Atlanta Falcons home and will also be hosting sports, entertainment and convention events. The project includes the design and construction of Vibro Piers to support isolated column foundations and load bearing continuous wall foundations.
Construction works begun in August and the 2.5-foor diameter Vibro Piers will be drilled to depths up to 27ft, expected to increase the allowable bearing capacity to 4,000 pounds per square foot (psf) in the foundations and limiting foundation settlements to less than 3/4 inches and differential settlements between the supported footings to 1/2 inches. Proprietary data acquisition (DAQ) equipment will be used to monitor and record all construction parameters including penetration depth, time and energy parameters, as well as stone quantity.
Joe Persichetti, Vice President of the Atlanta HB office commented: "Hayward Baker's core values regarding safety and quality match those of the other team members and are intrinsic to making this project a success on all levels".
