NovoTech has gone through more than 70 published papers and geotechnical reference books to collect over 300 SPT correlations with 20 soil properties, correction factors, bearing capacity, and settlement estimation within the NovoSPT software.
With the new version of NovoSPT released in May 2020 you can now view the equations used for each correlation. By clicking on each correlation, the equation will be shown below the list of correlations and will be included on the report, where several improvements and new features have been added as well.
Each correlation is developed for certain soil type(s) and NovoSPT will allow you getting up-to-speed in a very short time to select the proper one. At a specific depth, based on the site stratigraphy, NovoSPT will only use the correlations that are developed for that type of soil and by categorizing the soil types as Clay, Silt, Sand and Gravel, it will allow you to use only correlations that are valid for one or a combination of these soil types.
The Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is widely used to obtain the bearing capacity of soil for shallow and deep (pile) foundations. Blow counts (N) measured in the field are corrected for rod length, borehole size, sampler type, and hammer energy level. NovoSPT can automatically apply the following corrections on SPT field data (N) to obtain N60 and N1(60):
Additionally NovoSPT can estimate bearing capacity of pad / strip footings based on SPT blow counts.
