The Seren Multipurpose Gas Laboratory is part of the Seren research project that is led by the Geoenvironmental Research Centre (GRC) in partnership with the British Geological Survey (BGS). A primary goal of the Laboratory is the investigation of rocks’ reaction to gas injection and extraction.
The GRC selected GDS Instruments and used CO2 adsorption cell. This device consists of two units. The first unit measures the pressure change in a rock sample during adsorption, in iso-thermal conditions. It is equipped with two cavities, one for the rock sample and another for the known quantity of gas. The second unit measures the permeability and the gas transfer. Using the aforementioned apparatus, the Laboratory was able to simulate accurately the actual conditions of a deep geological environment and as Mojgan Hadi Mosleh of GRC said: 'I personally recommend GDS for its high quality service and expertise'. Such equipment is currently being used in carbon exploitation in Wales.
More information on the CO2 adsorption cell can be found here.
