- Keywords: early warning systems
- Abstract
- Within lanslide early warning systems, a continuous challenge is the on-site implementation of a robust monitoring system, a reliable data collection and cross-checked analysis, and the presentation of respective results in a real-time mode. This paper will describe one concept of an integrated early warning system developed within the German BMBF-funded ILEWS project. This system is based on a variety of factors. The connection of geomorphological knowledge, geotechnical and geophysical information, sensor networks and web-based applications are examined. In the Swabian Albm one system has been installed and first results will be presented. These results give some indications of the potential of a real-time landslide early warning system ready to be used by various end-users and stakeholders.

- Keywords: spatial landslides analysis ; landslide distribution ; field work
- Abstract
- This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of landslide distribution in the Kayangan cathment, eastern part of Menoreh Mountains, Java, Indonesia. Raster-based GIS was applied in order to analyze the spatial distribution of landslides with parameters maps, e.g. slope, geology, geomorphology, drainage network, landuse, and road networks. 131 landslides were inventoried in the study area through internal reports of village offices followed by extensive field work. Four types of landslides were identified in the study area: slides, slumps, rockfalls, and flows. The landslides are distributed on a wide range of slope gradient and geological setting. Landslide density was 4.21 events.km-2. Most of the landlsides occurred on slope gradients ranging from 20 to 30o (35%) and were associated with roads. The landlside events were controlled not only by natural factors but also human activitis mainly roads construction.

- Process-based models as instruments: how models facilitate the use of theory and data for solving various geomorphological problems

- Book Title / Journal: International Conference : Landslide Processes - From Geomophologic Mapping to Dynamic Modelling in Strassbourg France
- Year: 2009 , Series: Chapter 4: Outlook on landslide understanding
- Landslides ; Slope Stability ; Instrumentation ; Geomorphology
- Keywords: spatio-temporal numerical models
- Abstract
- Process-based models are spatio-temporal numerical models that represent real-world processes occurring in a geomorphological system. Containing scientific theory, empirical data and assumptions, they function as an instrument or tool in geomorphological research to solve a particular problem. It is discussed that the properties of a model, how it is used, and what is required to estimate its components depends on the purpose of modelling. This is shown for a number of different purposes in geomorphological research.
