Ground freezing is a soil stabilization technique that converts in situ pore water to ice by continuously refrigerating the soil. Ice temporally bonds together the soil particles, making the soil impermeable and increasing soil’s strength. This technique is usually used to temporary support an excavation, stabilize slopes and prevent groundwater flow. When the process is over, the ground normally reverts to its normal state.
