3rd International Conference on Construction Resources for Environmentally Sustainable Technologies (CREST 2026)

The 3rd International Conference on Construction Resources for Environmentally Sustainable Technologies, CREST 2026, will be held at Churchill College, Cambridge, UK on 7 -8 September 2026. 

CREST 2026 evolved from a collaboration between University of Cambridge and Kyushu University with the aim of addressing issues related to natural and man-made disasters and the impacts of climate change. This will include solutions to these disasters through the use of alternative resources, disruptive technologies and disaster mitigation measures which will allow the building of a sustainable and resilient society using geo-engineering. 

The first symposium of the CREST series, CREST 2020, was held in March 2021, in an online format due to the Covid-19 pandemic with the second (CREST 2023) being successfully held in person in Fukuoka, Japan in November 2023. The overwhelming support that we have received for the first two conferences in the series from academia, industry, and government organizations has led to the organisation of the third conference of the series, CREST 2026 in a face-to-face format in Cambridge, UK.

The themes of CREST 2026 cover a broad range of interdisciplinary areas from within the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction that set specific priorities for action to prevent new and reduce existing disaster risks. One of the key priorities is enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to "Build Back Better" in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction. This includes integrating disaster risk reduction into development measures, thereby making nations and communities more resilient to future disasters. 

Moreover, in the face of increasing trend of climate change induced natural disasters, governments around the world have adopted more stringent environmental policies to reduce emissions and carbon footprints. Therefore, as engineers, researchers and policymakers, who are working with the resource-intensive construction industry, it is also our duty to contribute towards a sustainable and disaster resilient society.
