In the photo you can see an exposure of rock excavated with the use of explosives. The bores used for the placement of the explosives are visible and are indicated with red arrows. When using explosives as a mean of excavation is important that the amount of explosives used must be enough to facilitate the excavation of rock with mechanical methods but not too much because this could result in severe shattering and reduce of the strength of the rock mass. The photo is taken by the construction field of the Auburn dam.
