Contamination in soil may include different kinds of contaminants such as organic or inorganic contaminants and radioactive waste. These contaminants may be soluble in water and can pollute groundwater resources. Industrial waste discharges, mining operations, municipal solid and hazardous waste disposal, and agricultural operations are some of the main sources for contaminants in groundwater. Evaluation of the transport process of contaminants through the subsurface porous media and understanding the interactions of contaminants with the soil are essential to control the migration, protect uncontaminated regions, design effective remediation strategies, and secure water supplies.
