The ASCE Council on Disaster Risk Management is organizing the
First International Conference on Vulnerability and Risk Analysis and Management
(ICVRAM) at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Washington
Metropolitan area, April 11-13, 2011.
One of the
ICVRAM technical sessions will be dedicated to Ground Engineering Risk
Assessment and Management. With margins in the construction industry at historic
lows, and with costs of failing to accurately predict ground conditions becoming
increasingly high, the importance of proper assessment and management of the
variety of ground-related risks is paramount.
Papers to be
presented at this session will address ground engineering risk assessment, the
management of risk, reliability and related issues – from research to case
studies. Topics to be covered include but are not limited to landslides and
man-made slope instability, mining and tunneling, expansive and collapsible
soils, sinkholes, soil-structure interaction, seismic geotechnical engineering
and forensic geotechnical engineering.
The abstracts
are to be submitted on line by April 29, 2010 at:
http://submissions.miracd.com/ASCE/ICVRAM_ISUMA2011. After registering on
the conference website, go to “Author Menu” and click “Submit to an Existing
Session”. The session on “Ground Engineering: Risk Assessment and Management”
(Session ID #4) is under the general topic “Natural and Human-Caused Hazards”.
