Geophysics for Critical Infrastructure
The Engineering Group (EGGS) and Near-Surface Geophysics Group (NSGG) of the Geological Society and the British Geological Survey (BGS) are jointly organising this 1-day meeting aimed at industry professionals involved in geophysical investigations for critical infrastructure projects (onshore and offshore), including past or potential future end-users of geophysics (non-specialists).
Contributions are invited (as case study examples showing field-tested best practice) from infrastructure construction and research projects of national significance and critical importance, where near-surface geophysical methodology has been successfully incorporated into mainstream ground investigations. Examples should highlight where the conceptual ground model has been enhanced by the application of geophysical techniques to improve the geological, hydrogeological and engineering geological characterisation of the subsurface and to reduce uncertainty in the ground model.
Implications for near-surface geophysics of the forthcoming revision to BS5930 (2015) will be discussed at the meeting.
Meeting aims:
Bring together industry and research professionals from the geophysical, geotechnical and civil engineering sectors to foster a better understanding of mutual needs and expectations
Highlight geophysical case studies and best practice in critical infrastructure investigations
Disseminate implications for near-surface geophysics of the forthcoming revision to BS5930 (2015)
Outline Schedule:
If you would like to present your work to a broad audience of industry professionals and researchers, please email your title and abstract (max 300 words) to [email protected] by 29th May 2015. Please include the names and affiliations of the contributing authors and indicate your preferred presentation type (oral/poster).
Registration fees: £35 standard delegates, £25 GeolSoc Fellows, £15 students/concessions. Lunch and refreshments included. Online registration is required for all delegates: Register
