This photo was taken in Kingsbury grade, California, USA.
The retained material is decomposed granite. The the
thickness of the gabion wall is 2-3ft (0.6-0.9m). You can
see that the thickness of the wall at the bottom is bigger,
forming a foundation. This is a very important issue to
avoid erosion below the wall which again leads to
failures, as it happened in the past.
