In the photo you can see an exposure of rock excavated with the use of explosives. The bores used for the placement of the
explosives are visible and are indicated with
red arrows.

When using explosives as a mean of excavation is important that the amount of explosives used must be enough to facilitate the
excavation of rock with mechanical methods but not too much because this could result in severe shattering and reduce of the
strength of the rock mass.

Auburn dam.
